17 crew members were saved when the Indian Navy reclaimed a cargo ship from Somali pirates.

According to Reuters, the Indian Navy rescued 17 crew members after retaking a cargo ship from Somali pirates with the aid of special troops.

The 35 pirates who were sailing under the Maltese flag on board the cargo ship Ruen are said to have turned themselves in. The troops searched the ship for contraband, illicit weapons, and ammo. The previous year, pirates took control of Ruen.

Indian military officials claim that the ship might have served as a floating base for the apprehension of further cargo ships near Somalia’s coast. Ruen’s takeover is the first successful takeover by Somali pirates since 2017, when forceful actions by foreign naval forces put an end to a string of captures in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.To maintain maritime security, India has stationed at least 12 military vessels east of the Red Sea in recent months. Representatives of the Indian Navy have previously indicated that since December 1, military personnel have documented at least 17 instances of attempted hijackings, actual hijackings, and suspicious approaches to ships.

The crew of the ship True Confidence, which had earlier been targeted by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, was evacuated by the Indian Navy earlier. An Indian Navy ship is said to have transported 20 crew members and three armed guards to a hospital in Djibouti.

The ship True Confidence, which was flying the Barbados flag, was shelled, according to a complaint from the British Embassy in Yemen on March 6. According to the diplomatic delegation, the attack claimed the lives of at least two sailors. The Houthis asserted that True Confidence is an American invention and took credit for the strike.

Three people died, two of whom were citizens of the Philippines and the other Vietnamese. It is said that two additional Filipinos were seriously injured during the attack.
